On 12 October 2021, PIHRB representative contributed as a panelist to the webinar: Business and Human Rights Developments in Central and Eastern Europe, organized jointly by Nova School of Law in Lisbon, the New University in Ljubljana and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
Various jurisdictions across the world have adopted National Action Plans in Business and Human Rights and have enacted legislations or are discussing legislative initiatives to regulate companies and prevent adverse human rights and environmental impacts. These developments raise important questions about the adequacy of existing norms and their ability to drive change towards responsible business practices.
Whilst much of the focus so far has been on a small number of countries seen as 'big players’, less attention has turned to jurisdictions in Central and Eastern Europe in which important developments are currently occurring. The aim of this webinar series is to gather scholars, legal practitioners, NGOs, trade unions, business, government representatives, policy advisers, investors, insurers, and other relevant stakeholders from Central and Eastern European jurisdictions in order to provide insights into the current regulatory landscape, and the lessons that can be learned from other jurisdictions.

To międzysektorowa inicjatywa, która od 5 lat mobilizuje polski biznes do podjęcia działań na rzecz realizacji Celów Zrównoważonego Rozwoju. Kampanię 17 Celów wspieraliśmy w pierwszym roku jej funkcjonowania przy okazji prac nad wskaźnikami. Tym razem ekspertka PIHRB, Joanna Szymonek, zaangażowała się w opracowanie

Forum zostało zainicjowane w 2017 r. jako otwarta międzynarodowa platforma do dyskusji o problemach najbardziej istotnych dla światowej społeczności prawnej. Jego misją jest angażowanie wiodących specjalistów i ekspertów z różnych krajów w dialog służący stworzeniu wspólnego podejścia do problemów prawnych w kontekście globalizacji oraz na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju. Przez ostatnie pięć lat konferencja ta i towarzyszące jej warsztaty i seminaria stała się prawdziwie międzynarodowym centrum wymiany doświadczeń, gdzie spotykają się myśli, idee i rozwiązania z państw Europy Wschodniej i Zachodniej.

A focus group on the SME networking platform was held on July 29 with representatives from the Eap and V4 countries. It was organized by the project leader – SME Development Association (SMEDA) is a non-profit, non-governmental association, whose main goal is various activities to manually limit the growth and development of small and medium businesses in Georgia.
During the focus group, we were able to get to know each other, learn more about each other’s organizations, and most importantly, discuss the SME networking platform.
The presentations presented by the partners included information about them as well as very valuable information about the state of SMEs in their country which will be used in refining the platform.
Recommendations and advice from the partners regarding the platform was shared, and the focus group was the starting point for the development of SMEs in our countries.
SME Networking Platform – A Project that aims to improve the business environment and strengthen SMEs competitiveness in EaP region by developing the SMEs and SMEs cluster-to-cluster networks and fostering the Global Value Chain integrations of EaP SMEs through sharing information, knowledge and know-how.
The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
